Dating sim meets hidden objects; with surreal undertones

With Findr I took a lot of initiative and had already decided on a premise before I started finding people to work with.

Luckily the talent found me, and we quickly decided on a story we wanted to pursue, and found the tools required to start working on our project (Unity and Fungus).

We weaved surreal elements into the game and story, but found that this art style isn’t the easiest to execute, so we needed to take time to really learn about it. Despite the circumstantial

process

In our pre-production phase we brainstormed our concept and story, aiming to create something unique in a saturated genre. We also looked at our main references: Monster Prom and Ace Attorney.
With our basic concept we then created player personas and conceptualized how we’d engage each of them with our game. At the start we overscoped believing we’d make several storylines and characters, after working for a while we realized one character would be enough for the time we had, with several hidden branches and goodies for dedicated players.

Level Design:
– Structured and populated levels
– Determined relationship between the levels
Vision Keeper

– Communicated and reevaluated vision of our game
– Assessed which tasks had to be finished
– Evaluated finished assets
Engine Programmer:
– Learned to use our Plugin; Fungus
– Intensively learned Unity
– Implemented levels, backend systems, story, features
– Fixed bugs

With Findr I took a lot of initiative and had already decided on a premise before I started finding people to work with.  Luckily the talent found me, and we quickly decided on a story we wanted to pursue, and found the tools required to start working on our project (Unity and Fungus).  We weaved surreal elements into the game and story, but found that this art style isn’t the easiest to execute, so we needed to take time to really learn about it.   Despite the circumstantial difficulties our group managed to deftly finish the project within the ten weeks we had to work on it, and are all quite proud of what it has become.
